| To
meet the needs of the commercial canoe guiding
industry in Whistler, Chris Kaipio worked
with the Recreational Canoeing Association of BC
to develop the Day Guide certification. This
course certifies successful participants to be
able to lead canoeing in day trips on lakes and
Class 1 moving water. This course is held every
spring in Whistler to train the employees of the
the areas three commercial guiding companies
that guide the River of Golden Dreams. To date,
over one hundred people have received this certification.
The
course length is three days and consists of the
RCABC Lakewater 1 and 2, and the RCABC Day Guide
Module. The Day Guide Module can be taught in a separate
one day course, if participants already have the
Lakewater 1 and 2 or equivalent. Course content
includes leadership, group management, paddling
strokes, boat handling skills, teaching
strategies and rescue skills on lakes and moving
water 1.
